KUWAIT: Zain has been recognized with the Distinguished Social Project honor in Kuwait’s private sector for its annual Ramadan campaign, Zain Alshuhoor. The recognition came during the recent tenth meeting of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) states’ Ministers of Social Affairs held in Doha, Qatar. The announcement was made during the thirteenth honoring ceremony for recognizing leading community projects, attended by the GCC Secretary General Jasem Al-Budaiwi, Minister of Social Affairs and Family & Children Affairs Dr Amthal Al-Huwailah, and Qatar’s Minister of Social Development and Family Mariam Al-Misnad. Zain Kuwait’s Corporate Relations Specialist Faisal Al-Duwaihees received the recognition.
This honor underscores Zain’s commitment to implementing its comprehensive corporate social responsibility and sustainability strategy to drive impactful social contributions. It also reflects the company’s ongoing efforts to foster collaboration with public and private sector organizations to create a positive impact within the community, especially during the Holy Month of Ramadan, which embodies values of generosity, goodwill, and sharing.
Zain expressed its appreciation to the Secretariat General of the Gulf Cooperation Council for this regional recognition, considering it a testament to the Kuwaiti private sector’s commitment to achieving social development goals, fostering community outreach, and advancing sustainable objectives — goals that the company has successfully achieved through its Zain Alshuhoor campaign. The campaign is one of the first and largest Ramadan community campaigns in Kuwait. Launched over a decade ago, it kicks off annually before the start of the Holy Month and continues daily until Eid holidays. The campaign offers a wide and ever-evolving range of volunteer, charitable, humanitarian, social, spiritual, and sports programs throughout the month.
Through this campaign, Zain strives to reinforce the values of generosity and kindness that the Holy Month embodies, renewing its connection with all segments of society through numerous initiatives and contributions that reflect the deep-rooted values of the Kuwaiti community in helping others and promoting such values. This year, Zain collaborated with several strategic partners from both the public and private sectors in Kuwait, including the Ministry of Social Affairs, the Grand Mosque of Kuwait, the Kuwait Red Crescent Society (KRCS), the Kuwait Food Bank, the Public Authority for Disabled Affairs, and Suffix, a sports events and activities organization.
The campaign featured tens of initiatives, including distributing food baskets, hosting iftar meals, organizing humanitarian and social visits to care homes, children’s hospitals, and centers for people with disabilities, in addition to health & sports activities, entertainment and social events, Quran recitation competitions, participations in popular media programs, and much more. The campaign achieved positive results this year, including the distribution of 42,000 iftar meals throughout the Holy Month and nearly 1,000 food baskets to underprivileged families through three official entities. Zain also contributed KD 500,000 to the national campaign to aid debtors in cooperation with the Ministry of Social Affairs.
Additionally, more than 800 participants took part in Zain Alshaheed Park Ramadan Challenge, while hundreds participated in the company’s first Holy Quran recitation competition in collaboration with the Grand Mosque. Hundreds of families also visited Zain’s headquarters to participate in the second season of the unique Zain Girgeaan Drive-Thru event, along with presenting numerous prizes through television and radio programs. Zain believes that its success in serving the community is largely due to its strong strategic partnerships with various government and civil society organizations, non-profit entities, international organizations, public and private sector institutions, and volunteer groups — partnerships that have resulted in a positive social impact year after year.
